Let’s dive into Lacey Farber’s design ideas!
It’s time to take advantage of your backyard haven. Step one: figure out your design approach. Is it Classic, European, grand millennial, transitional, eclectic, or all the above? If you can’t make a decision, that’s okay. One important rule of design is to be creative! Don’t limit yourself by putting yourself in a box. Instead, try to think outside the box, like Ponderosa and Plaid Blogger Lacey Farber.
“When I’m looking at furniture for my home, I’m always asking myself if it’s a classic, timeless, and comfortable piece? I love the idea of passing furniture down to my children. If furniture meets all those criteria, then it’s a win!”
Pool houses are a sanctuary for rest and entertainment during the summer’s heat. After spending a calming morning by the pool, it’s the perfect retreat spot. But, with the right design, you can transform any day into a summer day.
Lacey credits her fun, quirky 1904 house for shaping her unique style. She always knew what she liked, but she didn’t let riskier choices whisk her away until her family moved. Originally built in the 1930s, the home was slightly upgraded in the 70s, so the pool house radiates a retro feel Lacey knew could handle a bold design.
“We’re now living in a home and property that we joke will provide us with projects and renovations for the rest of our lives. We will never be 100% done with working on our home, and that is so exciting to me!”
Decorating a retro space is a fun way to introduce a cool style into your home. To play off the nostalgic period, Lacey went for a Palm Springs and Malibu Barbie vibe.
“I incorporated the Lotta pink velvet bed and a couple of Heron Hardin Jolie swivel chairs that are show stoppers! I absolutely love the horseshoe shape of the chairs, mixed with the whimsical print. These pieces add so much whimsy and character! They’re classic, but with a twist! I blended many different textures and prints, and somehow it just works.”
If there’s one thing that brings a smile to her face, it’s Joybird’s furniture. Your eyes can’t help but gravitate towards it. The chairs provide a chill, lounge area, while the bed entices you with a beckoning call to take a nap.
“It’s the first thing you see when you walk in, and it's a statement! Not only is the pool house an escape on a hot day after a swim… but it’s also a guest space.”
A pool house isn’t just a place to keep wet, soggy feet away from your main home—although, it’s one of our favorite functions! The versatile area lives a double life. Not only is it a place for cleaning off, but also a fun, relaxing place for your family and friends to hang out.
“My kids are little now, but I know someday they will be off with their friends, and I want this to be a place they know they can always come to. I just want everyone who walks in my home to feel comforted and welcome.” And Lacey did exactly that!
To follow Lacey’s design advice, always remember to stir up your emotions. If you find decor or furniture that makes you say “Eh…” then keep walking! Take out what you don’t love to create room for things you can’t live without.
